Filler 2: A time-killer with strategy

In a new take on the time-killing great “Filler”, SimianLogic has vastly improved the user experience and graphics while retaining the simple, strategic gameplay dynamics. The concept of the game is simple: Fill a certain percentage of the screen by “inflating” blue filler balls, keeping in mind that each level only gives the player a certain number of balls. The trick, however, is to avoid the fast-moving “bouncy” balls, which will pop a filler ball if it’s still being inflated. Thus, quick movements and good predictive skills of ball movements are highly rewarded. Want to play Filler 2? Click here.

The game is surprisingly well-balanced, with later levels offering a not-impossible challenge and scaling the number of “filler” balls received appropriately with the number of bouncy balls. Timing can get painstaking, though, which simply builds on the “time-killer” nature of this simple free flash game. For a game as simple as Filler 2, it’s surprising to find so much strategy.

Eat People and Listen to Metal in Trap Master

There are few games that can pull off addressing the player as “Bro”. Trap Master is one of them, a retro arcade-style game by Berzerk Studio. In the free flash game, players command a monster guarding a dungeon from a rush of oncoming villagers waving their pitchforks and pikes. The “guarding” aspect is particularly bloody, as the monster is particularly fond of eating on oncoming attackers, grinding them into a bloody pulp with comically large jaws. If you want to play for free and eat some villagers, play Trap Master here.

All-in-all, this is a very cool riff on the common “tower defense” theme. But rather than letting the passive-attack turrets do all the work (in this game, turrets are replaced by things like jets of poison and giant weights that drop on attackers from the roof the dungeon), the player actively must command the monster to kill attackers. But without a good turret placement strategy, even the fastest eater won’t be able to get very far when playing Trap Master.

The music is worth mentioning as well — the metal is a perfect accompaniment to the large quantities of blood and poison present in Trap Master’s dungeon.

Cyclomaniacs: Flip Your Bike into High Achievements

Like stunts, but don’t want to do an actual faceplant? Do a virtual one with Cyclomaniacs after your bike fails to do that awesome double-back-somersault that would get you the achievement that lets you play as Elvis. Sound fun? Well, it is. In one of the deeper free flash games I’ve seen online, Long Animals Games puts lots of levels, characters and achievements into a real time-killer racing game. Want to see how many backflips you can do? Play Cyclomaniacs the game for free here.

While I can’t say I’ve mastered the game yet (see above for the one-second-before-faceplant shot), it’s definitely going to keep me coming back. The achievements are just at the right difficulty level, tough enough that you won’t do them without noticing but easy enough that they seem close enough within grasp that it’s worth it to play that level just one more time. You also get a great variety of actions, bikes and characters to choose from.

Obechi: Collecting Dots in a Simple, Relaxing Flash Game

If you are interested in a fun, relaxing and artistic game, try playing Obechi by K2xL. Obechi is a dead-simple flash puzzle game where the player attempts to collect a certain number of dots (which are abstract objects often flying around the board) using a certain number of rings. Precision is extremely important: depending on the level, it can be easy to get either too many or too few dots.

The difficulty is just about right for a new player: Obechi eases you into learning how to collect dots and form the right right sizes in a simple and relaxing environment (the music helps!) — yet the time-based scoring component allows veteran players to compete and sink more time into playing this fun free flash game.

Check out Obechi above — it’s produced by the guys at K2xL.

Spin and Flip your Submarine: Banana Dash World 4

If you’re a fan of whimsy and side-scrollers, you’ll probably like Banana Dash World 4. If you’re a fan of bananas and submarines, you’ll love this online flash game. Play it for free by following the link in the next paragraph.

In the game, the player is the captain of a yellow submarine, leveling up by completing an occasionally maze-like course within a time constraint. Points are earned by collecting bananas, one of which is the special “golden banana”, which is surprisingly tricky to find. The golden banana is an additional bonus. If you like the way this sounds, you can hunt for the golden banana in Banana Dash World 4 here!

The trick to Banana Dash World 4 is to complete the track in time. This is often tricky, as jumps need to be planned ahead and often executed to perfection. Jumps can earn you big points, though — stunts are extremely important, as spinning and flipping can really boost the final score.
